The Mcgill University Health Centre (MUHC) has an Ombudsman assigned to each site to investigate and help to resolve user complaints. According to the MUHC, the Ombudsmen are independent, impartial and provide a service free of charge.

  • The mandate of the MUHC Ombudsman is to investigate complaints from family and patients which could not been resolved by the appropriate healthcare team.
  • Aside from providing physicians and staff members with information about family and patients’ rights and care, the office assists to lodge complaints against physicians, residents, pharmacists or dentists, Council of Physicians, Dentists and Pharmacists (CPDP) members.

When communicating issues to the healthcare team, it is important to get the name of the individual or individuals and request all replies in writing within a reasonable time frame.

If you are unsatisfied with the response from the healthcare team and/or the MUHC Ombudsman you may address your complaint with the Protecteur du citoyen du Québec.
