To get an accurate figure of a countries COVID-19 lethality, the total number of coronavirus deaths needs to be measured against the size of the countries population. Even though exceptions exist, overall, a larger population will more likely produce a higher number of cases and deaths.

San Marino, with a population of nearly 40,000, suffered 42 deaths (0.1%) and tops the overall world list with 1,238 deaths per million. The UK, a population closing in on 67.8 million, sustained 41,736 deaths, (.06%) and a rate of 615 deaths per million.

Therefore, in selecting the most lethal coronavirus country in the world the number between population size and number of citizens who fell victim to COVID-19 was used.
